A Sonnet for the Resting of the Holy Virgin Mary
Here is a sonnet I wrote in honor of Asterio le-Mariam (the Resting of Mary). It is an orthodox holy day. Through the flesh of a woman, the word was made flesh. Respect is due to her, for being selected by God.
Thou Resteth, I Write
Verily, it is Mary who makes me merry,
Portal of the Anointed One for everyone,
Mother of God, so in thy praise do not tarry,
Beautifully bearing the light that outshines the Sun.
Oh! Thanks be to thee, Sanctuary of the Son,
We admire thee, Oh! Sturdy staff of Aaron,
Christ is the rock, thou art the floor of religion,
Without veneration, our lives would be barren.
Thou art the gilded container of healing stew,
Often referred to as "the garden of delight",
Thine acceptance of the spirit let us renew,
Lives that wallowed in sin's mud, saved by divine might.
There is right and there is wrong, we are more than dust,
Holy Virgin Mary, may thou please, pray for us!
