A Terse Note on Philippians 1.
Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of partisanship, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in that I rejoice (Philippians 1:15-18)
There are preachers who will compete for the same flocks of sheep, but not for the sake of God. Instead they will compete so that they can be seen as the wisest of them all. Others will do so because they feel warm inside when everyone is looking at them and hearing their words. If a preacher spends more time on defending her denomination of Christianity than on your salvation, you have a godly reason to skedaddle. A good sign to look for is whether or not they are presenting you a sermon within a larger context of the whole Bible, or trying to isolate one verse to fit into their worldview that more often than not ends in asking for your money. Orthodox, Catholic, Protestants (yes even 'non-denominational' Protestants) can all have such teachers. Their distinctions dissolve when they reveal their true master.
Largesse and endless committees, sponsored by the love of money, are the most effective tools that the Devil uses to take our time away from worshipping Jesus Christ and ministering to the poor. Mankind has wanted to shove their pride into the heavens since the days of the Tower of Babel. As the adage goes, there is no new heresy under the Sun. The love of money, and the pride of idolatrous buildings made with our hands have been with us since the beginning. Nevertheless, let Jesus Christ of Nazareth be proclaimed. Whether it is by the idolatrous or the humble. Whether it is by the the unrepentant or the righteous. Let His name be proclaimed, and let she who comes in His name be blessed unto the ages of ages.
Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on us sinners ::
Furthermore, we must love each other.
