Difference Betwixt Preaching & Teaching
Notes
preaching = kerygma = heralding or announcing. it should normally be a short quip about good news and repentance. like the famous "the kingdom of God is at hand, repent". teaching = didaskalia = greek version of torah which is an instruction unto life. admonishment, exhortation, and encouragement to change behavior based in paradosis(tradition / hand-me-down) and paretheki (deposit) from the Lord Jesus Christ to His Apostles to their disciples to us. I think at times we make preaching and teaching sound more different than they are, but this is my subtle distinction. Teaching I think has more to do with expounding on Scripture (like the targum culture of Jews reading in hebrew and explaining in aramaic) where as preaching can be all over the place. Also, I would preach to a large crowd that may include nonbelievers, I would teach a small crowd of disciples.
