Election Advice from the Psalmist
John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton warned us long ago that
Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority; still more when you superadd the tendency of the certainty of corruption by authority.
Acton was a Christian man, and part of the legacy of men who consistently advocated for Christianity and Classical Liberalism. He was not perfect, and neither is any man but Eeyesus Kristos of Nazareth - the God-man. As a Christian (and thus a true Jew circumcised in his thoughts), Acton viewed the Psalms as Holy Writ. I do not know if he saw this connection, but I see a connection betwixt the Psalmist's words and his. Since the Psalmist came first, and we know him to be guided by the Holy Spirit, let us attend to the similar words of the Psalmist.
Put not your trust in rulers, in a son of man, in whom there is no help. When his breath departs he returns to his earth; on that very day his plans perish. Happy and Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God
Ted Cruz will not save you. Hilary Clinton will not save you. Donald Trump will not save you. Bernie Sanders will not save you. Rand Paul is the best advocate for the afflicted vying for the office of President of the United States (POTUS), and even he will not save you. Our superlative and utmost trust does not belong to the POTUS, it belongs to Eeyesus Kristos.
When there are gun massacres, why do we look to the POTUS? We should look to the Word of God. When there is ethnic strife spawning #blacklivesmatter movements, why do we look to politicians? We should listen to NFL player Benjamin Watson, who had his broadcast immediately shut down by the secular-humanist-agenda-pushing CNN the twinkle of an eye in which he mentioned salvation by Eeyesus Kristos from a sin problem and not a skin problem.
Presidents, politicians, and all men are dust and unto dust they shall return. Presidents, politicians, and all men have breath for a temporary time. At best their change will be temporary. The change from above is eternal. The change from above is unseen.
When we hope for eternal and unseen things from our God, and share these eternal and unseen things with our neighbors, then we are hosts to an unending joy that will raise questions in the eyes of the despondent, destitute, and depressed.
Elect Eeyesus Kristos as President of presidents in your heart, and disregard all outcomes of all electoral processes. No matter who wins, if your trust is with God, you will win. You will be happy no matter what. And with that happiness, you will be able to reach your unhappy neighbor. That is good news.
Furthermore, we must love each other.
