President Obama and God

Picture this... you are sitting in your college lecture class on international relations and President Barack Obama walks in. For that matter... imagine you are in your home, at church, or having a picnic with friends and President Obama strolls through. Perhaps you are in your sweatpants, with your hair tied (buntastically) and chilling with no make-up on. Though that may be when you are the prettiest, you feel underdressed.

If the POTUS arrived to any scene that we were at, it would be quite startling.* We would question ourselves. Am I dressed appropriately for the president? Am I sitting the right way? I wonder what his bodyguards are thinking of me? Should I ask them if I could get his autograph?

What is a president if not a king? Sure, the processes of election may have minor differences, the divine right of kings versus the divine right of democracy, but in the end the president and king has dominion over a set plot of land. In Ethiopian/Abyssinian/Axumite history the rulers of the land enjoyed many titles. One of which, was King of Kings of Ethiopia. They had dominion over people who had dominion. But, the plot of land was limited to Ethiopia.

Jesus Christ  of Nazareth, the Son of God, and verily God himself, is the true bearer of the Davidic title King of Kings.** The plot of lands that he has dominion over are the cosmos. The entirety of space and time is his footstool. We are in Christ Jesus' presence everywhere we go. The same care, fear, adoration, admiration and other heightened emotions we show or would show to being in the presence of President Barack Obama should be multiplied ad infinitum to the presence of Christ Jesus.

Jesus is not bound to the tabot, the inner sanctum known as the holy of holies, the communion line, the robes of the patriarch and the archbishops nor the physical premises of your church.*** Do not curse each other, do not steal, forgive one another without ceasing, dress appropriately, worship no other god but the Lord, give alms and fast. These are decrees we hear from the witness of the church across the ages. They are easy to do at church, but we should strive to do them everywhere we go, because Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath, is with us everywhere we go.

Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Immanuel (which means, God with us) (Matthew 1:23)

The asking of an autograph question above directed to the secret service hints at a scary discrepancy in our American culture. It is easier for a fan (fanatic) to ask bodyguards for anything a celebrity has touched, than to ask the bodiless hosts (angels) for any of God's mercy, favor, goodwill and forgiveness.
