Rejoice for Reconciliation
We are instructed in Philippians 4 and 1 Thessalonians 5 to always rejoice in the Lord. But, today we have an extra reason to rejoice. I would say I am speechless, but that would make me a hyperbolist for here I am writing words. After 27 years, the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church is one again! Without the 4th patriarch dying, the 5th came and went, and the 6th lived to co-oversee with the 4th. As a deacon, I have read their names aloud publicly on two occasions. The first was for a liturgy in Giiz and Amharic. The second was for a liturgy in English. I have waited too long to do this.
Please, please, please thank God on my behalf, on the behalf of all the Christians in the Afro-Asiatic Orthodox Communion, on behalf of HE PM Abiy Akhmed, and on behalf of all Ethiopians (regardless of religion) who will feel ripples of this peace for decades to come.
God rest the soul of Aba PPawilos (the 5th), and bless the remaining reign of Aba Merqoreywos (the 4th) and Aba Mateeyas (the 6th).
