Revival of an Almost Lost Set of Melodies & Literature

A sage of the Church, Patron of the Religion DeebeKwulu, breaks down the harrowing history of two melodies from Gojam that almost went extinct. Axabir and qomay (written above in Giiz). Through times of persecution, many books containing the musical notes and lyrics of these two traditional schools of learning were burned and lost. DeebeKwulu was one of the last remaining scholars who had mastered this, when one day the 5th patriarch of the EOTC stumbled upon him singing. Abune PPawilos, the patriarch, admonished DeebeKwulu for hiding these wondrous melodies and lyrics in Gojam instead of sharing them with all of Ethiopia - via the capital city Adees Abeba. Consulting with DeebeKwulu's local bishop in the proper ways, Abune PPawilos whisked DeebeKwulu away to Adees Abeba and appointed him to revive these schools en masse.

One line DeebeKwulu said pierced my heart with awe and it was the second time I had heard it this month. Unsurprisingly, it is a quotation of Scripture. "ጊዜ ገቢር ለእግዚአብሔር" "It is time for the Lord to act" (Psalm 118/119:126)

Abune PPawilos fell asleep with the Lord in 2012. DeebeKwulu now has four disciples whom he has instructed unto mastery and they each have their own students. Hallelujah. Through his progeny, Holy Yareyd of Aksum still lives.
