But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, for a wide door for effective work has opened to me (1 Corinthians 16:8,9RSV)
What is our role as evangelists? What is our role as people who herald the Good News? Apostle Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, saw some doors as open and some as closed. Clearly, these are not literal doors but figurative doors. These are people.
Have you ever looked at a wall and said, "let me open this wall". If that didn't work, would you put your hand on a knob that didn't exist?
As God does, we should desire the salvation of all peoples. But, given the reality that our time is limited we should be shrewd rather than spendthrifts lest we give to dogs what is holy and cast our pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6). Are we just sharing our feelings and emotions about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Or are we spending night and day studying His word (Psalm 1:2) that we may live and accurately share life with our neighbors? In our evangelism, whose will is being done? Hopefully, our lives will shout "thy will be done", both now and ever, unto eons of eons.
