The Bible in the Digital Age
The word of God is metaphysical. The prefix meta means beyond, and so any word with meta in it will ask for a reflection of what is beyond. We have five senses; sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. That which we perceive through these elements, we know to be a part of the physical world. Mirages, Timon and Pumbaa bugs, and other delusions aside. The word of God is beyond this. He is ontologically prior to our senses, and the entire physical world.
Scarcity rears her hideous visage at every corner of the physical world. Hunger and incarceration would be less likely if we eliminated the brute fact of scarcity. The digital age gives promise. Everyday more of the scarce resources in this world are transferred to the digital plane, with the new found power to be indefinitely duplicated. Bibles used to be passed out at a cost to the producers. Now, anyone with access to the internet can read the word of God. Thanks be to the almighty.
The Lord God has dominion over all of creation. This includes both the physical and digital planes. He is both metaphysical and metadigital. When we treat his word as bond, he allows us freedom from sin. I began watching The Bible television miniseries today. Keeping my thought two sentences ago as a lighthouse, we may begin to further follow the path illuminated for us in the Bible. Irrespective of how many times you may have read the word, it behooves you to watch it on the screen. I watched the first two episodes of The Bible, corresponding to Genesis and Exodus. I saw the sublime act of creation by the Pantokrator. I saw Adam and Eve deceived. I saw Abraham listen to the Lord instead of the creation, including his own desiderata. I saw Moses learn that he was a descendant of monotheists, not pantheists. I saw Moses be a conduit of freedom, from Pharaoh, for involuntary servants.
I witnessed faith, the highest degree of trust, in the maker of all things visible and invisible. I witnessed curses, and rewards for faith. I remembered why I fear the Lord God, and try to love him with my whole heart, mind, and strength. If you listen to anything I say, watch this miniseries and grow in your faith. Let it be according to his will, and not our trespasses. If a friend, relative, or leader is telling you to act contrary to his word, let them be anathema. She has no authority you are bound to respect. We have but one master. And he assigns us but one task. Obey.
